Foi o marido e Consorte Real da rainha Isabel II do Reino Unido. De 1947 até 2021, ele possuiu o título de Duque de Edimburgo, pelo qual era mais conhecido, e recusou o título de Príncipe Consorte quando sua esposa se tornou rainha em 1952. Filipe foi proclamado um príncipe britânico em 1957, e ao longo de 69 anos, ele se tornou o consorte com maior tempo de serviço na história da monarquia e da família real britânica. Ele foi também o consorte real mais antigo da história mundial.
